Unfortunately the author is known for writing scandalous (toxic) love stories. Odette and Bastian are equally both flawed but Odette was being blackmailed with her father by her stepmother. To protect her sister (who pushed her father down the stairs,) she betrayed Bastian and their relationship was never smooth so I wouldn't of blamed her for making such a reckless move. Unfortunately, Bastian handles the betrayal just about as well as you expected and yeah.. he "planned" to impregnate her and then take her child away after their contract marriage was done which leads Odette to want to run away. Drama ensues and because the main genre of this story is romance.. all is forgiven as you can imagine I dropped the novel when they got reunited despite the bs but I think both their characters eventually get redeemed by the end.
