Yes, there's a series of 5 prequel novels about Kyle/Nick called Eggs Benedict. Ash and Karlyle are introduced in it. The "first" bad meeting between Ash and Karlyle, that Karlye mentions at the beginning of DTR, is from those novels.

Yeah, I wish they would have done a prologue chapter with the relevant info from the prequel. Even after reading all the DTR novels, there was a lot that didn't make sense until I read Eggs Benedict.
Was there a story abt kyle and his partner already? Bc i feel like everyone knows their relationship BUT ME. Y'know what im saying? They were like introduced as if we know them already(?)
