it’s still unclear whether the people he massacred (or at least his main targets) were actually innocent (the common folk/not part of the govt) are def innocent though. the seme admits it, he’s said that he’s not disillusioned, just extremely focused on his goal (whatever that may be)

he definitely is cruel, and a murderer. but imo his father has no right to act high and mighty when he failed his son by sending him to the battlefield at a young age. the father must leave with the fact that he built the monster that the seme became

This is the crux actually. He's not good not bad more like shade of grey.
The real innocent one is Uke. Who lost his everything at the very tender age.
Let him be the judge. If he forgives him that would be justified or if he avenges his family that too would be completely justified.

My theory ahead, but I've read too many of these historical dramas so I know few story lines that repeat frequently.


I'd say, since he is an illegitimate child, it's safe to say his father already has an official heir. He has no power, no status. He is powerless in front of his father.

He is an eyesore to his father, a stain to his name, status and character. He is a constantly reminder of his mistske. So he sends him to the frontlines to get rid of him.

So to ensure his survival on the front lines he had to kill. But it's safe to assume his father, and other nobles that support him, weren't so happy a "bastard child" survived the frontlines and showed his strengt and måde a name for himself.


He survived the enemy frontlines, but another battlefied waited from him when he returned.

So to ensure his safety yet again, he had to be crafty and to climb the ranks.

But again, he is an illegimimate child, and other nobles 100% wouldn't make it easy for him to climb the ranks. Jelously from others, they are pure bloods afterall, while he is a bastard, how dare he even try to become a high ranking official.

So where is the last place he can go? The Emperor. Only person higher in status than the Nobless that can give him the power and status he needs.

The Emperor, even tho highest in status, still could face problems with ruling if too many noble factions oppose him.


So ML probably had to be the dog doing the dirty work of the Emperor to be in his good graces to insure his position in the govornment. Status is everything.

You're absolutely right , this is how ancient system works. Hierarchy is everything to them.
Like how they deem military officials from 2nd world and Scholars from first even though Military requires no less brain.

Emperor - Governor both are playing the game of Good Cop - Bad Cop.
Where former acts nice and latter becomes object of unnecessary hatred.
I'm sure Seme must have accumulated lot of enemies on his way.

So I still kind of stick with my former opinion of MC being the sole judge. His decisions would be justified no matter what he choses.
