I'm so tired of all this age gap thing. It's CULTURAL. In my country it doesn't matter at all if you are 18 and your boyfriend is 28 or more. And in other many countries is the same. The fact that some people think that a huge age gap is OBJECTIVELY wrong just annoys me

ITS BECAUSE OF THE MATURITY DIFFERENCE… a girl who’s 17 (FRESH OUT OF HIGHSCHOOL BTW) and a guy who’s in his mid 20s should not be together and the older person should not be liking a kid who’s less experienced and is more naive

You’re stupid if you genuinely think that maturity is based on experience alone. Brain development is a huge contributor and even though many 17 year olds can consider themselves as ‘mature for their age’ that doesn’t mean they’re at an adult thinking level. Your brain isn’t fully developed until you’re 25.

Thinking that you can define a relationship based on the age is really hilarious to me. It's PEEPLE over conventions. Always. I'm not trying to justify my country, Italy doesn't need that. I never went with someone more than 6 years older, and I wait till 26 to have sex, but it's common here to have huge age gap and have sex at 14. It depends from the person and we are not in poverty or mental for this.

Obviously the brain develops as you age, everyone knows that. That’s why I’m saying a 17 year old is NEVER going to be as mature as a 26 year old (since you claim those two are perfectly fine age gaps to be dating).

If you’re a minor and you’re getting into the dating world, only 1 year age gaps are acceptable. 2 years if you’re being generous. This is because you experience the most changes in the brain during your preteen and teen years and I can literally confirm that myself. I would NEVER dream of dating anyone younger than me right now because I KNOW the way they think are vastly different from the way that I think, even though there could be as little as a 1-2 year age gap.

14 isn’t an age we’re you should have sex, you’re a child. Even in the US there would be stigma around that and for a REASON. I come from a third world country, not even in Europe. So I’m very surprised to see first hand that the standards there are so much higher than in a ‘prestigious’ country such as Italy…..

also, if you believe that someone being legal justifies older people coming after them that just says smth abt you and whoever the older person is. if someone who’s 28 wouldn’t date a 16/17 yr old but would date an 18 yr old that just means it’s only the law stopping them from dating a minor and not their morals

You have a interesting idea about what a child is and what an old person is. As I said in my country at 14 you are not a child anymore, you are a young girl or boy, and at 24 (since I saw this type of relationship more than once, and then they even got married) you are a young adult.
