The way I see things… the emperor barely saw his son ever; I feel like he’d rarely know if he’s being mistreated. I mean like based on previous chapters, he was just super neglectful & the prince literally also hardly/never met w him bc of his toxic controlling mother so I don’t blame the emperor for not knowing anything/caring about the prince. If anything, I feel like he thought the prince was as bad/evil as his mother, which is why he looks so surprised in this chapter when ettienne (idk how to spell) cares for rishar.

Trauma is difficult to get understand in all aspects & it takes time for people to either heal from it or accept someone else who is related to it. It’s the same way with the prince :’) so I personally can’t hate the emperor or the prince or anyone else (except for the mother…) bc I do sympathize with them. Just my opinion tho ofc you’re free to hate whoever you want.

    neglect is a form of abuse. i feel that you CAN blame him for not knowing anything or caring because he actively chose to neglect and cast his son aside. if he hadn’t done so since the beginning, there would be no reason for him to believe that his son was as bad/evil as his mother.

    i can understand why he did what he did, since the empress forced herself onto him to have said child. however, a child who has done nothing wrong is innocent. idk i just feel that if you are a parent especially, it doesn’t matter the circumstance. it is completely inexcusable to abuse a child innocent from the faults of their parent.

    however, you are also free to feel however you do lol

    Oh yeah you do make a really good point (I think I was trying to figure out which was the lesser of two evils and I totally glossed over the neglect portion) ;w;

    tbh the more I think about it, the more confusing it feels in my brain bc I mentioned before that the emperor probs doesn’t know entienne is being abused by his mother but then the emperor is also abusing him too (just in a different way) so our prince is basically suffering bc of both of them. Anyway, I’m glad Rishar came back bc I still remember when he mentioned to the emperor that he mistreated entienne from day one & the shook look on his face cause bro didn’t even think about how much he was hurting his son :’)

    Hm yeah I don’t think the father understands just how much the prince is suffering bc of him. I’m still empathetic towards the emperor but it def doesn’t forgive his actions. I think if the emperor doesn’t actually help the prince in some way in the next few chapters, then I may lose my sympathy for him XD

    yes, i agree. it’s difficult! i can be sympathetic towards him because we know that there is trauma there for him, which explains why he does what he does. and though i understand his response to this trauma, i do not condone it. it may sound a bit insensitive, but i believe that having trauma is not grounds to inflict trauma onto others.

    that being said, i completely agree with you here. hopefully in the upcoming chapters the emperor is able to open his eyes and see what’s really going on. i hope that he is able to help entienne and even possibly form a familial bond with him! however if he continues on the path he has been on, my mind may be set on hoping for his downfall along with the prince’s terrible mother too! XD
