I agree with you. It felt like an era ended after POTN (not that I say the story is the best but nostalgic, eh?). The 'same boring toxic plot' you're talking about is something I experience as well. I mean good ones are still there but most of them get constantly overshadowed by the art style that toxic popular ones have because good-looking seme > good plot/story is how questionable people choose. And because bl creators notice this phenomena where such stories with such characters gets more attention, they tend to lean on making such similar bls as well when they could have done authentic, better ones.
Tbh we're just in the wrong site in finding good reads, there are new bl that has good premise tho, so not all are that bad. It just that the toxic kind of stories are popularise due to majority of growing of wierd readers enjoying such writing
