That familial bond is always strong no matter what. It's a "I can pick on my sibling, but no one else can" thing. So to hear his brother died after leaving him 6 years later and not to natural causes would raise some unnoticed feelings, and when you learn your sibling was murdered you'd feel this thirst and hunger to enact vengeance.
