Yea it’s obvious Cliff is being controlled, like he wants Edith to take Killian away so he can have Liz but he pressured his love rival into going on a date with Liz. The math ain’t mathing
After the author lost all her control, Cliff was still on her side. He chose to continue to be with her after knowing what she did to MC in jail.
That's not the actual ending tho, he ends up marrying another woman

Most of the characters including Edith, Killian, and Cliff, get a happy ending while Lize suffers and gets a bad ending!!
