This was my first reaction too but i tried to read the novel and i fell in love with the little mushroom. You need to read the novel.

I have to say that Little Mushroom really stands out amongst the other apocalyptic danmei I've read. I highly recommend if you like sci-fi and bl with a focus on plot over romance.
I like sci-fi but I really don't like body swap type of things. If the mushroom had his own unique body id read it already. But still ty for the rec.

Well, go read the novel....its complete. The story kinda have so many futuristic interpretive, so in the story, human can have biologically combine or something... But the seme wasnt artificially hybrid... He was born half something because his mom was a carrier, something like that... Well...you should just read the novel...
