You're incorrect. Killian is the oddity. It was mentioned in a passing that it seemed like the people least affected by the story change the most (background characters or unmentioned characters, like Eudith's maid), and that's why Cliff and Lize are still mainly following the story. For whatever reason, Killian is nearly uncontrollable by the original plot now, as he has so much of his own free will although he shouldn't (the 'god'/'controller/'player' was crumbling about that in one chapter)
I'm a bit confused. Her clearing the challenges was supposed to make Author lose some grip on the story, but it seems like just Killian is somewhat free
