honestly that really annoyed me too, especially since the omegaverse project is trying so hard to create one unified biology system and they already decided that a/b/o dynamics have nothing to do with xx/xy characeristics? like what was even the point, other than to justify having 0 female characters in this story?
I'm not making it a problem, just calling out an error, if I was calling out an actual problem with the manga I wouldn't add "don't mind me" in the title of the post.
The author herself decided to add a part about chromosomes even if she could've skipped over it, since as you've said, a/b/o is a fantasy concept, so in the same vein I'm "calling it out" since it's incorrect ૮˶• ﻌ •˶ა
This is a comment on a random manga website, it's really not that serious
Biology major here. You're wrong. This manga's depiction of a/b/o is actually more biologically accurate and probable than the usual one. Biological sex is determined by the Y chromosome. The X chromosome codes for the female sex characteristics and it is the default for everyone because we all have at least one X chromosome. But the SRY gene in Y chromosome suppresses the expression of the female characteristics and leads to the development of the male body. That's why those who have a normal functioning Y chromosome will have a male body. So, in this manga's case, a hypothetical mutation on the Y chromosome may actually lead to varying expressions of the male characteristics. And since XX females don't have a Y chromosome, they don't get the a/b/o characteristics and just develop a female body (the default).
That's not how chromosomes work, a mutation on Y chromosome would not cause anything close to a/b/o genders in only males, and even if it was this simple, both afab people and amab people would be affected. Honestly male omegas having XX chromosomes and female alphas having XY chromosomes similar to some intersex(DSD) people irl would be more biologically accurate than whatever the author's trying to do.
I love when authors try to bring more realism to their stories by using real life concepts, but unfortunately it usually necessitates a lot of research and gives more room to error and that part just annoyed me ૮ ◞ ﻌ ◟ ა
