I’m going to assume the best scenario happened and the butler eventually told the father. That’s why the summer house hasn’t been sold and has been well kept all those years despite being completely hidden away. Not even the new young master knew about the existence of the house. I wish there was an extra to tie it all together, that in the father’s will, he wished that his son would one day live with his lover under those roofs, the true happiness the father couldn’t have. And that the house would be revealed to the son once he found “the one”
The late master (Seme’s father) backstory is bittersweet. He’s been keeping that summer home intact and maintained all those years to preserve the memories of falling in love that one summer even though he didn’t know that his love was returned, the weak lover couldn’t make it to their meeting spot to elope. Maybe that’s their fate since he died young, but that poor father held onto that love to his death with only the young servant boy (now his son’s old butler) as their sole witness.
