I guess it’s pride and he might have felt his skills weren’t enough and felt useless. Some people r just too proud of what they do n their capabilities so when they realize something other than themselves is/was the driving force, they don’t take it well.
I think I can relate to that. Making a design is a form of art after all. When you create an art, you pour part of yourself into it. And ofc when you create something, you'd want people to recognize it
