And I can't find any information regarding Japanese men eating sweet food on the net. I don't like get caught up in what many consider "traditional gender roles," (my 18 yo daughter says, "Who assigned a vagina to the color pink anyway"), but probably in Japan meat is considered manly and sweet is considered feminine, though I think they make it more of an issue in manga. I think that it's mostly in the minds of Japanese female mangaka as a way to spice up plot, that men eating sweet foods is an affront to their manliness, just like turning down a confession deserves a slap in the face.

I don't get the gendered sweets thing either. If I had to guess it may have something to do with traditional Japanese sweets not being sweet like Western sweets are, so maybe it's rooted in the traditional versus foreign difference?
Fun fact for your daughter prior to about 1910 or 20 it was the other way around -- light blue was for girls and pink for boys.

Haha, yeah, and in the history of high heels, they were worn by cavalry men to keep their feet in stirrups, also worn almost exclusively by European noblemen until they finally got sick of the lower classes trying to imitate them, and more reasons that had nothing to do with women. That being said, Japanese cakes and ice creams are about half as sweet as they are here. Totally yummy. Can eat a lot without getting sick of the sweetness. T

I asked my Japanese coworker (from Japan) and she say Japanese don't usually like sweet food, but they don't care if a guy love sweets.

If I were the guy in that confession I would have been like "Hold on girl, before you say anything, let me wear my kendo's armor"
