Carcel couldn't cancel it. If he has the say why he still stuck in the engagement all this time with a girl who won't even give her attention? Ines kept him trapped in the engagement using the empress and Carcel can't turn it down. When she finally wanted to marry, she just appear in front of him cheating to guilt trip him. He also didn't decide this.

you are angry because the ines chose carcel at a young age with the power of empress and he could do nothing at all then.but did you forget about all of the avoidance of his marriage with ines that he even ran off to the academy just to delay his marriage.and while at the meetings/dinner with ines' family just two weeks before the marriage.he even learned that the duke(ines's father) had been planning for the wedding be called off if he had delayed the marriage until later which means he had the chance to run from this trap of a marriage you are talking about rn

Whoever post this should reread ch10. "And my naivete at age 16, when I dreamt of becoming Oscar's wife..." Ch16 also saying how she used to be shallow so no surprise if she did want to marry him.
They should also reread ch42 bc that was when she started inviting women to their home to get Carcel to cheat. Latest ch show Ines just flaming the rumors to let women think they're free to seduce Carcel and then when she invite them to their home, the women are just crazy to think that's true. I don't see how ppl think Ines didn't plan all this?
And right now you guys are mad about how she's set up the plan to make carcel as having an affair.that was her plan from the start.she's been meaning to do it way before their marriage.she even told him to live just the way he did before the marriage but seeing as how he's not falling for the other girls temptations.she planned to do it herself if that is how she's going to get both of their freedom.we understand that you guys are angry at how she's setting carcel up despite him being loyal and all.but living all the other life before she's not going to believe the love of a man/not yet.she doesn't plan on trapping carcel nor her in this sham of a marriage and that is she planned this because the husband of hers is not falling for other women and divorce is out of question if he's not involved in any affair.

Yeah, a grown woman I’m a child’s body pointed to a 6 year old boy who was scared out of his mind and said “I’ll marry you.” And thus it was set in stone. So naturally, readers like you think the child should’ve been a good little boy and lived his life like a monk until the grown woman was hood and ready to put her plans into action… meanwhile you also ignore the very fact that she chose him specifically because she didn’t want him to live his life like a monk. She wanted him to be the man he is to enact those plans.
You think he went to the academy to avoid marrying her but he didn't. She later finds out that he does like the military. Looks like you don't read too. There's two sides to their story. She also didn't want to marry at that time so she was fine when he went to the academy. The duke didn't even say he been planning to call off the wedding. The duke just saying he wanted that but he can't do anything about it bc his daughters always wanted the wedding. Go reread. Even Carcel knew that they're always still engage bc Ines always wanted it. The duke cant do anything. He literally always spoil his daughter. Even if he hates it, he'll leave it alone bc Ines wants it.
I'm not even mad that she set up the plan. I'm mad that ppl blaming Carcel on something that's Ines' plan. Like the poor guy is getting hated in the comments from ppl who keep atking him for cheating when she planned it. If they got issues with him cheating, they should look at the source of the issue. She is not dead set to divorce him bc of how he is before marriage. She been plotting divorce she was 10. You think he cheating at 10? Hello?
Ch 13 show the engagement still continue bc Ines wanted it. "This engagement has only lasted so long because while Ines may not like me or even have any interest in me, she at least wants me."
Ch 24 show she's plotting divorce with a lawyer at 10. The lawyer said the countess got a better verdict bc her husband had infidility so Ines was taking notes to get Carcel to cheat to get a better verdict when they divorce.
Ines is the type to plan something like this but she isn't the type to unjustly frame Carcel. Her goal is to leave not hurt him. She's setting up opportunities for him to cheat more easily (tempting him), but she's not planning to hurt him (beyond rejecting his love) or ruin his character. This is why she plans so much for both of their futures (and was even putting extra thought into who would be a proper affair partner for him). Also with her PTSD/trust issues and his history of affairs and behaviour, it's not a surprise that she doesn't fully trust him or herself and is slow to fall in love.
So I think we can relax. Knowing Carcel he will probably end up crying or the crazy lady will somehow insult him and Ines will comfort him or defend him.
