I don't think that's a fair comparison, for starters Given is shounen ai and this is yaoi so yk from the get go what you'll be getting into. Also Given focuses much more on the band and making music while this one is more focused on the romance/sex aspect and the band bit is just an added bonus not the main plot. And Given is quite lengthy so it has space to better develop the story/characters while this is shorter therefore the story is more contained and to the point. Do you like 88rhapsody? That one falls more on the shounen ai side and is very sweet. If you like music related BL and haven't read it yet I recommend you give it go!
I’ll check it out thanks. I still think this manga is trashy tho. That’s fine if it wants to focus more on romance/sex than music but they did it in such a gross way. Like Haiga being enamored by Kanae’s performance was beautiful, the scene of them practicing together was cute, etc. But instead of developing the relationship thru more natural ways, they made Kanae a prostitute that started “to find a bf” (tbh just an insulting reason). Kanae is supposed to be a talented and captivating musician yet instead of spending his time on his actual passion, he spends it pointlessly sucking random dick. Haiga, instead of getting to know his club members more or learn music or talk to Kanae, spends his time making money to pay Kanae to suck his dick. And that’s supposed to be.. romantic? Make him look dependable? I actually really like this author in general but they’re soo bad at realistic plots. They just wanted to draw a slutty older bottom w/ long hair and the “plot” is filler. Traaaashy
Hahaha I totally get where you're coming from! I'm not the biggest fan of prostitution/porn themed stories but they tend to be very common in BL. I know prostitution is pretty big in Japan so maybe that's why... I'm not too sure how to feel about Kanae's job and his mindset about it tbh it all makes me very uncomfortable but other than that I really like this story and in part I like it because it makes me uncomfortable. It's quite confronting when you come across a story like this and it makes you ask yourself some questions like okay, why is this making me feel a certain way? I also like Shikke a lot! Her stories have a very soft gentle quality to them that I find very comforting. Her other work "Sex Drop" also made me a little uncomfortable tbh with Kuimi sleeping around so much in the beginning but then I usually feel that way about characters/people being that way but it's always interesting reading/hearing different perspectives on the matter. Sex is a weird thing XD
I also recommend Iki Dekinai no wa Kimi no Sei. Volume four just got uploaded and it's a lovely story with lovely characters and everything revolves around music so you might enjoy it if that's what you're looking for. It's one of my all-time favourites (▰˘◡˘▰) it's very wholesome.
