It's in the novel. It was said he was "relieved", not that he was "happy". And he would be miserable when they switch back because he would rather he's the one to suffer
Yeah, relieve is what i believe he feels - he does prefer it that way. But happy? Oh, no!(◠‿◕)
They can swap bodies now without having to off themselves. It's another "gift" they got from visiting that temple. And Winter couldn't be more relieved because he would rather he suffers and be in pain in place of Violet
