Tbh I've just come so far that I don't even read if I don't think it'll be enjoyable enough. You can normally tell by first look if a story will be good or not. Don't have the time, too much wasted energy on shit manhwas and only about 10% of them are actually good or interesting in some way. Rest are average or hair pulling, eye gouging material
Agree... At first I didn't read much of Korean Yaois since most are just about smut but then end up reading a lot because not much of Mangas yaois are uploaded/updated anymore and when it is it's instantly 8.9 rated, which can be pretty discouraging for Mangas uploaders (BL manga artists?). I've gone back to read Seinen Mangas and I'm not the only doing this.
Can you give me some titles of the 10% you like...?
I agree, except the only reason why I read manhwas more than mangas (for bl at least) is because most bl mangas on average are only 5 chapters, sometimes more if they have extras. I like slow burns so even tho they're good, I like to spend more time with a story and have more content
Also about the 10%, sure I can give some, just give me a second (probably add manga as well)
Yeah. This one will really probl follow the development of other K yaois with similar plotline. Plus Cry me a Rive is really slow-paced and the focus on smut every 2 chapters doesn't help the plot to progress, to be exploited at its potential and issues to be solved. Or these latters may be but not before 100++ chapters like the other popular Rich x Poor.
Yes, me too. If there is a reason as to why I read Korean BLs is mostly because of that reason; for the long journey as a reader and because the authors/artists have the time and no pressure to exploit plently and entirely the potential of their plot/ideas.
(Do they...?)
But when you open the first chapter, and all you see is smut and smut again for each every 3-4 chapters... Where's the slow-burn? Where's the romance? I'm so tired of seeing porn thrown at me while I expected a proper intro to the story. From this, will it be worth to read the rest, yes if the plot has some purpose and if there's actually a plot.
It'd be so nice if Japanese BL authors could have such time and less pressure. Finishing a story in an average of 6 chapters in indeed limiting.
There are more that I feel could have added, maybe not 10/10 but still enjoyable or very intriguing, weather it's because of plot or character dynamics. Might add more later but here are some I enjoyed
Manhwas
Lost in the Cloud
The Pizza Delivery Man and The Gold Palace
Stranger (interesting character dynamic)
No Moral
Half of Me
Path to You (cute slice of life)
Checkmate(TAN) (plot and interesting dynamic as time goes by)
The Beast Must Die (very intense plot)
Don't Be Nice To Me (slice of life)
Taming the Tiger
Park Hanhoo's Manager
Swapping (plot)
Walk on Water
-
A shoulder to cry on
(a short 30 chapters, read it a long time ago but I liked how realistic their interactions were. Tho the ending was rushed and bizarre which made me sad but still enjoyed the ride)
Mangas
Fangs
The Boy And The Wolf (it's a comic)
Escape Journey
After Work (idr much about this, as I read it a very long time ago but I remember really liking it for some reason?)
Manhua
Heaven Official's Blessing
Code of Silence (?)
- (here and down are all slice of life)
The Story About You x Me
19 Days
Salt Friend
Interesting but haven't I finished/new
Lolop (philosophical)
Guiding Hazard
Dreadful Night
What's with this strange dream?! (Cute)
Right, right... Do you remember which was?
About me it was just 2 days ago, with Nerd Project. It was surprisingly a nice reading and for the moment there is the right amount of intrigue, tension and romance that I need. I hope once it reaches smut it won't be just that. I'm planning to read next Code Name Anastasia. Someone told me about Dear Door, the first chapters looks it has a proper plot so I'll watch and see :)
Thanks!
I've started to read some of the manhwas list you present, and dropped some. Others are yet to be discovered like Don't be nice to Me ,that the title itself is a calling.
Let Day, Dark Heaven, for the pretty old ones
Recent ones: Monochrome Rumor, Nerd Projetc, Code Name Anastasia...
Monochrome: I was really into the plot for the first chapters, but then I got lost because of all the k-pop endless episodes... I don't know where's going the intrigue.
Nerd Project: the type of BL that I like, like the Pizza Delivery Man
Code Name: haven't read yet, but I know I'll like it (masculine Uke, action, intrigue...)
Shounen Ai manhwas:
I became the lousy side top
Plum Candy Love
Manhuas:
Do you know Hua Hua You Long? This one is a Yaoi smut, rapey one but nice art.
Shonen Ai: Little Mushroom, gorgeous art and the kind of plot I like.
Mangas: I have a lot, and I doubt you'll like them all. One is for ex Lovers on a Desert Island, this one's comedic and silly plot but I adore it. I've read also many of Masara Minase's BL. Empty Heart of her is one of my first yaois so they are special to me.
Maiden Rose is a master piece but has not been updated since a long time now...
Sakura Gari: a really sad story
Razoku no Hanyome: romance with hot guys in a tribe village...
The Boy and the Wolf is a Frangas (Manga made in France ^^)
Thank you for your recommandations, I'll take a look and I'm sure I'll like them as I know you're not eating anything Yaoi.
Yeah... I'm on the same boat with you.
I tend to prefer Shonen-Ai as well. Not because I don't like Yaoi/smut or can't stomach dark themes, but simply because Shonen Ai are often better written with a complexity of scenario that isn't found in Yaoi and a respect of treatment of the issues/plot that isn't present in Yaoi (smut).
You're right about the amount of lemons eating up the plot, and there are other defaults in writing which can be simply lazyness, incompetence or negligence...
Which ones did you drop? Tbh I dropped the checkmate one at first then picked it back up and it actually wasn't too bad. Although I'm only like 40 chapter in. (Others I had on hold)
I liked monochrome rumor a lot but it started drifting a bit, a real slow burn lol
Little mushroom is a novel adaptation (novel to manhua) and I heard it's actually really good
Also I didn't know that about the boy and the wolf. It's my favorite but wasn't sure which country it originated from (the architecture in it kind of hints it tho)
I'll make sure to read these. The code name Anastasia one I've been wanting to read for a while now, I hope it doesn't turn out like that one manhwa (idr the name but it has a similar cover, and it was just really bad in general)
True, also tends to not use sex as an excuse or filler for relationship development (the "me and the person I hate just had sex so now I'm in love" or where instead of communicating or solving any problems they just have sex, skipping everything and either leaving nothing resolved or everything's suddenly magically resolved
LOVE re-encounters. I hate them. So much. Kdramas, novels, comics...wtf is it with this trope?
