girl said a whole lot of nothing. don't make it about happiness just say you don’t understand gay people it was nice that she apologized but it seemed like she was just talking out of her ass to me. maybe someone can explain it better for me?

    well older generations have trouble with that kind of stuff. I think the point was that even if she doesn't get it she still loves her son and feels regret that maybe even if she did her best she didn't understand him this whole time and caused him misery. Which, obviously, she didn't fully, but the regret that maybe you went wrong with your kid is something that plagues a lot of parents.

    My conversation with my mom when i came out went much worse and she's still not super into the whole gay thing. But she still loves me and wants me to be happy so she does her best. I think sometimes a lot of western narratives do not know how to tread that line, you either see stories about conservative bigot families who disown their kids or families saying "ill love you no matter what all it matters is that you are happy". But in more conservative cultures things aren't that simple even if you love your kid. An important part of getting older is also like Jaeyoon said to understand when a parent's disapproval is their own problem and not yours. Very bittersweet but very moving discussion imo
