No it’s the other way around they got married because of sage it was their own way of protecting their heart sure later on they might have fallen for each other but the reason behind their marriage was because sage died and Dustin’s mom had nowhere to go so

Sage, grandpa's son was dating dustin's mom and he was besties with dustin's dad. After his death both of them sorta started feeling for each other and hence felt lil guilty towards sage and his parents who were always kind to them so they never stopped dustin for volunteering.
