you can search up online what the heart colors mean since it's revealed in the novel, I think If I remember right that the black heart is like a hopeless love or something like that, so I don't think things are gonna go well next...

Of course I noticed that all targets have a different colour heart, but I thought it was simply a detail to match with the character. Like, Callisto's is red alluding to his red eyes, and Vinter is purple because his whole colour palette is lavender, and such. Because that's what is usually done, to give each character a representing colour.
I didn't expect the hearts' colour to actually mean or indicate anything...
oh geez,,,, the implications... so i was right in suspecting that eckles would be on that yandere shit, though i do wonder how far it'll go. but, what is Really making me uneasy is the colour orange... derrick is really good at making me dislike him; he truly Never considered penny a part of his family if i'm reading this right and even has romantic(??) feelings towards her??? bro, fuck off. good to know that reynold feels actual familial love towards her, he was such a brat in the beginning but has fully won me over now.

I've just learned about the hearts colour meaning, but I surmise that imperfect love refers to a love that cannot be fulfilled, for whatever reasons.
In Vinter's case, I'm inclined to believe that his romantic feelings for Penny are honest and real, but there's also mistrust and suspicion, which hinders any relationship to fully develop. So, while he may love her, he cannot give his all wholehearteadly.
Only my interpretation, though. I can be wrong.
