As someone who came fr a country devastated by the Japanese Occupation during the 40s, I have a hard time reading about Japanese nostalgia - almost romanticized view - of the war. My grandparents told me first hand stories of the atrocities and brutalities that they witnessed or have heard fr their own parents in the hand of Japanese military when I was a child so we don't forget.
On the other hand, as an American, I also deplore the treatment that the Japanese-American received during the war. Nor do I condone the atomic bombing - totally unnecessary when Japan already surrendered.
Just my thoughts about the discomfort I felt with this chapter... otherwise, another melancholic chapter
I completely agree with this sentiment. The story itself is all over the place, but it is beautiful. I was extremely uncomfortable reading about the bombing as an American because I agree- I find what they did totally disgusting and absolutely unnecessary.
