As a novel reader, I want to tell you that their actions, particularly the Ml's, run wayyy deeper than they seem on the surface. It took me a while too to understand the characters, each of them are very complex, including the side characters. So please hold back on your allegations against the ML and I probably advise you not to read this story until like season 1 ends? The spoilers you read on novelupdates are very misleading bcuz those were based on MTL and inaccurate English translations.
The ML is a very complex character. He is your typical high-ranked noble who was raised to be haughty and aloof and it was common for nobles of those ages to carry such disposition. He's a Duke, not a commoner, and so he could never bring himself to be outwardly kind to commoners. And his affection for Layla is genuine. He never takes her for granted, but it is true his actions are caused out of desperation because Layla keeps misunderstanding and denying him a chance to express himself. His actions seem cruel, but there is kindness hidden underneath them. This is not one of those lighthearted stories with fluff. You need to invest a lot of time and patience into understanding the characters.
I agree! I read the novel and I understand why Matthias is like that and every spoiler I read is misleading like him raping Leyla which is not true.

I saw too many hype posts on Tiktok and pages about this and they all put summary that it's full of angst and said the ML is deep red flag so I got curious and tried to find it. True that maybe the spoilers I read in the novel forum can be objective like it's based on how the reader understood it or the translations are bad but still the key points of the story like how it went to her being asked to be a mistress, him still engaged, her running away, etc. all because of social heirarchy is something that's too much for my heart to handle. (●'◡'●)ﾉ
I'm not saying it's bad. This is indeed a deep story and I agree that you really need to invest time and patience. And for that, I will come back to this when it's Completed or else I think I'm gonna die from anxiety. hahahaha

Wow! I thought I was the only one who understood matthias a bit. He's not really red. I mean yeah he did some stuff to Leila but he's really genuine. At least it's the way how I understood his character. Some people find him red flag because they're used to handsome guys with gentle manner but Matt isn't raised that way. Honestly every characters were realistic. And well written. I get this isn't everyone's cup of tea but it's really gooood.
I will just probably wait until this is finished. I spoiled myself and read the forums about the novel and this is just too much for my heart. From here on out it will be the start of Leila's misfortune. They really did justice on the appearance of the MCs tho. Nah, I will just stop at chapter 6. I'll add this on my Want to Read List.
A bit of hint: manipulation, force, coercion, arrogance, hell, bullying, unredeemable ML, happy ending (surprising right? lol)
