It was his own son. It was quite a smart move, as it did get the kids to settle down somewhat. Since it was his own son, it would've been likely that he could've talked it over with him... even though getting stabbed by your own parent is not a 'whoopsies sorry' thing.
Like you would have done any different. Someone had to endure raising an annoying kid like you too.
These kids see nothing but sand and deserts and then they're all screaming and running to "find their mommies and daddies". I can not blame the adult for stabbing one of kids because they were all out of control.
