Honestly, that is why the story isn't working for most of us. Ian has become a background character in his own story. I like flawed struggling desperate Ian, who is just trying to survive in a world that hates him. I find perfect Brian boring, the white knight standing against political evil.
I hate to feel flimsy but thanks to you, I actually get a good reason for why people hate Ian. I thought it was stupid to hate the ex(?)if it’s the partner treating Brian as a replacement.
Looking back on Brian though, from what I remember, he does have it way easier than Ian. We get basically a montage of his praises and he definitely has a strong reputation among all the characters. He’s in a very influential position.
So I think the reason why the story still works for me is because I took a long pause to let it marinate, forgot and now I’ve mostly forgotten Ian and lost most of my attachment to his character. Which allowed me to quickly adopt Ian without comparing the two.
In hindsight, I realise now that my original comment was very unfair, so thank you for the enlightenment. I almost feel like I owe Ian an apology.

At first I was like ‘man, c’mon another ethereal dead wife?’ But like man, I am loving Brian. Brian is good, great and great. Stop blaming Brian for how Sol is treating Ian. Plus I forgot everything about Ian, can someone give me a short character summary on him, please I’m serious.
