This was going through my head over and over the whole time I read the story. I wanted someone to be there with her to share the pain so badly. I seemed unbearable to get through that alone. I could feel the pain just by reading. They are such brave and strong people.
I gen think that its just a joke, it could be a financial issues you know. Beside, she might have things that make her cannot leave the country, i believe there is a lot of things that the mangaka didnt put in the manga. Because its supposed to focus on her srs.

Seriously, her spouse letting her go alone for such a major surgery to stay with the cat should be a deal breaker. At least, be there for the first couple of days or week for support after surgery for your loved one. Hope the mangaka is doing well and enjoying her life to the fullest.
