Haven't read this but I feel so smart rn reading the comments and remembering in chemistry when I learned that alchemists were people hired by rich people to turn other, cheaper elements into gold on the dl because it was frowned upon anyways it obvi didn't work also, the whole straws turning into gold reminding me of Rumpelstiltskin from once upon a time and i wanna rewatch the show now lol
