Truth! In the book they go over it and you are right it was to stop gossip. Their relationship wasn't clear and it began as a transaction so he said there was nothing because he hadn't confirmed feels yet.

Comments are back and I have something to sayyyyyy (please be nice meeeeeee). Now don’t get me wrong, I love Ash and Karlyle’s relationship, they’re so sweet and soft. BUT I kinda feel like they made up a little too quickly. I wish a deeper conversation would have been had about why Ash said what he said around his employees. I know we can assume he said so the girlies wouldn’t spread rumors, but Karlyle didn’t know this. I just kinda wish they would have talked a little more about it.
