Well at least I really like shounen ai and also shoujo. Some shoujos have clichés that I don't like or female protagonist that I don't like but others are really great...
It's called "the forbidden love fetish", Romeo and Romeo against the cruel and unjust world, and if there's no Juliet the female reader doesn't need to worry about reading into the story any cultural cues of what constitutes good and bad attributes in a woman.
This is a good explanation... But it sound like women are either jealous of female protagonists when they are too perfect or annoyed when they are too human... Xd
Anyways, thank you for responding :)
I don't like shoujo. Not because I'm jealous of a female lead--rather I'm bothered by annoying female leads. Most shoujo have similar female protagonists so i tend to stray from them. I read shounen-ai/yaoi and the uke is too fake & annoying, I drop it like a shoujo. See, when I'm reading an actual book, female leads does not bother me at all. It's almost like it's branded a manga thing. My sexual preference is actually right in the middle so I really don't discriminate between genders.
I don't understand people who like shounen ai but hate shoujo. Shounen ai often has a similar feeling to shoujo... Both are innocent and cute love stories. When I started reading shounen ai I thought "well this is a shoujo but with two guys in love"
