I really like how their relationship is kept with a vague label, like sure, there's some nudging about how they could potentially become something less "ambiguous"... but does that really matter? They are content with maintaining an intimate yet respectable distance. And that's perfectly valid! It also feels organic.
This is so much better than a story that pushes an explicitly romantic development between main characters because //apparently// that's the only way to show affection.
it seems to me that Volf has ALREADY caught some feelings and not just as a Friend in one of the Later chapters he basically says to himself that he is ALREADY in love with her .
