Im not sure what happens in the story but I read somewere that hes the male lead who turned dark after regressing and not being able to meet the FL in any of the regressions.
You can also confirm this if you look up the novels art that the author did, the ones with the man in the coffin and FL looking at him (there are 2 of them one whith black ML and one with white ML BOTH dead and in a coffin)

And theres also another drawing where white ML and FL are in front of a white gate that looks like heaven and another one exactly the same but they both have black hair and are dressed all black in front of a black gate that looks like hell.
P.S White ML and Black ML are the same person (most likely) ╥﹏╥
