yeah it was cute and all, but i hate how fatphobic it was :/

like... was it really necessary to loose the weight? couldn't he just stay fat?? also, just because he's fat doesn't mean it ok for everyone to just go a grope him like nothing

i understand how japanese culture tends to be with fat people and weight shit, but like... its still wrong

i put it on the original comment but it seemed to be cut off t__t personally, i felt like it was somewhat realistic/normal for him to have lost weight when they became adults with full time jobs, imo it would’ve been fatphobic if they made him lose weight during the misunderstanding/highschool part, but that’s just me :] everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but do correct me if my take is offensive (๑•ㅂ•)و

mmm i see, personally as a fat adult who was also a fat child and teen, i don't think it's actually "more" realistic to loose weight when you grow up, and since thats a common trope i find it as a fatphobic one
ofc people can loose/gain weight when they grow up, but i always (especially on manga) see the young character become thin when they grow up and never the other way around or even them staying fat, so my first thought will always be that it is fatphobic to make the character thin

also, i see these sort of narratives as a way to blame fat people for our weight, even if its unintentional (but this is purely my interpretation coming from my lived experience, i don't mind if people don't agree)

on the other hand, him having to loose weight during the misunderstanding or as an implicit requisite for them to become a couple would habe been more obviously/explicitly fatphobic than what happened

i think of this as similar to micro-aggressions, its so common and naturalized that people don't react or recognize it as fatphobic, and often times us fat people are the ones who do get it or identify it as such

i understand what you mean, i’m definitely seeing it from a much different perspective now, and i’m sorry if what i said upset you in any way, it was not my intention at all

I am also a fat person, but I didn't find it fatphobic.. rather, i thought it ws gd tht da mangaka shwd tht da seme ddnt like da uke cz he's fat.. cz it ws kinda feeling like tht.. i mn, it's nt wrng to hv a preference.. sm ppl like fat prtnrs da sm way s sm ppl like skinny prtnrs.. bt i lv tht in here it ws abt da personality, nt his body type..

i wouldnt call it fatphobic because the author really took care to portray it as the natural course of things and not him getting “better”; he simply changed. i know it feels a little contradictory to the rest of the story but the focus was how arai fell in love with him no matter the way he looks.
though i feel like he lost a load of weight and could’ve still looked a little chubbier at the end , i still love that ending.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this, even though sometimes it's 50/50, but the story portrayed him as being disgusted and/or embarrasses by his previous weight and essentially having a whole personality change because of it. The biggest evidence that this story leans towards being fat phobic is that the author did not create a sex scene in which the character is fat(which is probably what we were all waiting for) and instead chose to wait till the very end when character was thin to do so and looked like an entirely different person. Also, there were many times that the MC was openly hated on for his weight and I did not feel that the love interest defended him against those remarks nearly enough, almost passive aggressively insinuating he should lose weight. And in Chapter 3, although the love interest previously stated that he loved him ad he was, he openly stated that the MC should "lose a few pounds." I don't think that is an acceptable statements towards a partner and especially a brand new partner, that would make anyone feel just awful. And eventually, yes, the MC did change to comply with his love interests words of course so ehhhh 3 stars from me.

i mean if the uke himself wants to lose weight for his loved ones why should we argue about it
