K (initial of my fbf) didn't put the other reasons but one of them (i think?) is that Alice Oseman doesn't want to describe Heartstopper as a "yaoi" or even "BL". I mean, Alice not wanting to describe Heartstopper as a "yaoi" is understandable because there's not a smut scene there. But saying that it's not a "BL" is just crazy. Like, what would you call it if it's not a BL then? Just "a romance between two boys"?? That's literally what BL is, though?
At this point, I actually think she doesn't even know the difference between "yaoi" and "BL". MUCH WORSE, THE MEANING LMAOAOAOAO
Btw for people reading this and you don't know the difference of the two, i'm gonna explain it for you.
I know many people thinks YAOI and BL are the same but they actually have differences
BL is a short term for "Boys Love", meaning, a romance between two boys.
While yaoi is a Japanese term for manga that features sexual romance between men. In the West, yaoi is used more generally to refer to any anime, manga, fan fiction, that focuses on romance between men. (searched this on google btw so it's clearer)
So basically, Western people sees yaoi as a romance between two men (no sexual acts) but in Asia (specifically Japan) we see it as a sexual romance between two men.
I don't even know who came up with the meaning that it's ONLY a romance between men (yaoi meaning for western people) ಠ_ಠ
Just wanna let yall know that SOME heartstopper fans on twitter are comparing heartstopper to tgcf, not just tgcf but all danmei and yaoi (ik yaoi has nothing to do with danmei but they suddenly just made an issue about it). They are saying things such as "Danmei is nothing compared to heartstopper." LMAO ಠ_ಠ pretty sure you shouldn't compare them because this one's historical and heart stopper isn't? Sadly I can't put the screenshots that my friend took here
The heartstopper plot is good but the author is just too problematic lol ╥﹏╥
