Im pretty sure that if she tried to do anything the original edith wouldn’t do the system would punish her and make it happen either way
The maid that is beating up Edith is secretly an assassin that was sent by ediths family and has been in charge of ‘taking care’ of Edith since she was little. The novel describes how Edith tries to fight against the maid but isn’t physically strong enough.
The novel does a better job explaining why she couldn’t “fight” back.
And I think that it’s good she’s letting her beat and use her. The more evidence, the more she looks like the victim and will gain the trust of others.
