I'm a university student, and one of the majors I study is Law. And So I had to take a break from this manga to study my history of law exam, only to see that what I was studying about was literally being explained on the chapter I left it on???
Instantly smitten with this.
It's not all historically accurate obviously(like the depiction of relationship between characters, or even who the mastermind in some real life historical conspiracies were), but it's really really good and gives an accurate (in my opinion. Not an expert. I only took one class lmao) feel for the time period.
It also portrays the fight for the papal seat pretty well. It was absolutely that bloody and underhanded. In the middle ages the ius and fas (law and religion) were interlinked, so they inevitably affected one another.
(You can stop reading here I'm going to geek out) That's one of the whole reasons kind of why the head of the church was transferred to Rome.
Fun facts about medial law!
Idk the name in English, but they used to have interrogations by god called ordalías where they made a person do something and if they survived it meant they were innocent. For example, if a man walks over burning cole but burns himself, that means god didn't want to protect them because they were guilty.
The role of women there were super interesting too. I ancient Greek, the sexual figures with erotic interests were only men. Women were just there to have children. That's why the perfect relationship was between an older man and a younger one.
Meanwhile in the christian work it was flipped, women were insatiable seductresses(aka eves legacy) and we're to be treated as such. They had to be controlled. Women had less rights, because they were more inclined to being possessed by the devil, because they had more holes to be possessed through. I shit you not.
Also if a man cheats it doesn't count as cheating, but if a women did it..... Im the Napoleonic code you could even kill a woman if she cheated in your own house.
There was definitely more crazy stuff but this is what I remember off the top of my hat .
I think I lost the plot of this one sided conversation tho. I def had s point before...
THIS IS REALLY GOOD.
