If that was the case why didn't they kept it that way, just because creator passed away, they changed the pairing when saeko was the preferred one!!. I don't understand this, why and who changed it, if creator wanted saeko and takashi to pair up!??
Creator passing away is all the more reason for why rei should be thrown away, at least they all should've stuck to what creator wanted!!
I don’t think they changed it since there was no final couple in the last chapter of the manga and more open. It’s more like the author probably passed away during the development of the manga and they just left it there. So it’s likely they were working up to saeko being the final girl for him, later on in the story. Most of the time I see stories where the author passes away, the assistants and people who worked with them on it don’t touch the manga to not ruin the possible vision the author saw, which is why many of those mangas are incomplete.

Regardless of the beginning where she didn’t date takashi despite the whole promise thing and dating another guy, if she clearly had feelings for takashi still- that would mean she used her exbf as a rebound and also to make takashi jealous. She continued to not like him before the apocalypse. It wasn’t until after her bf was dead that, she suddenly switched up. She made her choice to date another guy and supposedly move on. But then she goes back crawling to takashi especially since he’s the next best guy. She was constantly rude and whiny, and also had the audacity to get jealous. She had plenty of time to date him before the apocalypse, but now got upset when other girls like him. What would have happened if her bf was still alive? She’d probably still be stubborn and stay with the bf or go back and forth between them. I’m convinced anyone who actually likes rei is one of the three:
-a simp
-a pushover
-a masochist
Anyways saeko is best girl, loyal and a badass. Also flirty with only him. It’s also been confirmed by both creator and artist that saeko and takashi would have ended up together had the creator not passed away
