I did stop around chapter 60 and there is about 75 chapters and two extras (as of now) so about 15 chapters more but I just don’t think I have the energy to put effort into reading the raws. The story could have a drastic change and may be great but I just don’t think that I could overlook the way the story portrayed the characters, and the rest of the manhwa. With that said, no shade if you liked this. For me, it was just quite disappointing and didn’t give what I thought it was going to give.
They didn’t show the ML and the other guy going all the way. All the information i saw was that bit of text where the ML stated he was just using the other guy. Going by subtext they could have slept together but again, I’m not 100% sure. I’m sure they engaged in some sexual activity if the ML was using the other guy and especially because it’s shown to be somewhat ambiguous in the earlier chapter in season 1. I definitely think it was a poorly done plot device to create tension between the ML and MC. I just think that there were better ways to create tension in the story while also moving the plot. Heck, we could’ve focused more on the MC having to decide whether to stay with his family or to leave them behind to be w/ the ML in the earlier chapters if we wanted more tension, instead his decision to stay with his family is used as a cliffhanger at the end of season one, which is a decision the MC totally instantly regrets. And thats sorta where we begin season 2.
Hopefully we both find reads we can enjoy better.
I think the ml loves the mc in his own kind of way. In the ml’s backstory we find out that he actually thinks becoming a blood demon to be a bad thing. Despite this, it’s the MC who accepts the ml the way he is. They reference the scene where the ml accidentally drinks the mc’s blood for the first time. The mc says something like “please drink your fill” and that helps the ml to accept himself. I think this is where the ml really starts to fall romantically in love w/ the mc.
So I’ve roughly read up to chapter 60 using various translation apps and i have to say the miscommunication trope was really strong with this couple. I wanna preface this by saying that this story has MPEG, in addition the following paragraph will have mentions to DUBCON. Please take care of yourselves.
on it and we don’t eventually find that out until a few episodes in season two. Season two starts off with a two year time skip and I really have to say nothing really changed at all. The mc looks for news concerning the ML and finds a clue about the sect’s new hiding place. While on his way to embark on his new journey, the ML kidnaps the MC. Dubcon things happen and the ML makes the MC his “flower”. It’s around this time that we have a flashback to the ML’s past and find out that the “flower” thing means that the ml can only drink from the MC. I’m like 80% sure about this tho. We also find out that the MC’s family has a connection to the ML’s sort of master/savior. While making the MC his flower by making him drink his blood the ML impregnates MC tho the MC doesn’t know this until way later.
Concerning spoilers about the ML’s past, apparently he was born with some ill fate and his village people didn’t want to keep him. A monk who is passing through the village at the time decided to pick him up and the ML eventually grows up. Around age 21 or 23 he is almost killed by another senior monk and falls almost to his death. It’s there that a female master saves him by turning him into a demon.
Its here that we learn about the origin of the blood demon and the flower lore. Apparently the female master who saved him is the old sect leader’s “flower”. He was killed by the new sect leader. (The new sect leader is massively in love with the female master but of course, she hates him. The female master actually hoped that the ML would sleep w/ her as repayment as she really wants a child. The book here talks about the female master wanting to have an unbreakable bond/connection. Turns out the female master was pregnant before but her pregnancy was terminated idk on really but I think it was the former sect master because he was afraid that her life was in danger if she continued the pregnancy. But than again it may have been the new sect master. The machine translations were a bit hard to understand here lol.
Eventually The female master dies and the ML and the redheaded dude think it’s the current sect master that killed her. So they hatch a plan to usurp him. It goes really well since a lot of people in the sect actually like the ML and he has his own branch. After becoming the demonic sect master for a few years he goes in travels the world eventually, ending up at The Midnight Forest. During this time, he trains his body not to drink blood. He’s fairly quite successful. Since he only needs to drink blood I think every once in a while rather than everyday.
Next, we find out things about how the ML felt about meeting the MC for the first time. There’s more but I don’t really have time to type it. Honestly The storytelling at this point was horrible. Everything felt out of place from a narrative standpoint. For example, female, master, wanting an breakable connection/bond = family/child than bringing that moment back for the couple was cute BUT are we just gonna totally forget that the MC just left his family, to be with the ml granted, his dad sucked. But than it kind of defeats the whole unbreakable bond thing. And I don’t honestly care about this couple at all. Theres this moment where the MC asked the ML about how/who was going to take care of the baby and the ML is like we’ll hire a nanny. I felt like this scene just gave me so much whiplash and ick for no reason. The characters, the story, the pacing, its just not done well. I think it’s surprises me since, although the others authors works are not finished being translated into English I think the other works especially in terms of storytelling are done more cohesively so this could have been an interesting read but it lacked so much in the characters, the plot, and the storytelling.
One good thing that I will say is that season twos art definitely improves from season 1. Props to the artist.
