i did read through it though and i enjoyed reading your opinion on this :)
I've read quite a few manga at this point and I've noticed that there are many characters that readers find to be assholes but I really don't share the opinion. I really think it has to do with age and experiences. The older you get, the more ppl you meet, the more you realise, not everyone has to be nice to someone just because another person confessed. Not all relationships work, ppl cheat, ppl get dumped, we don't always end up with our first love, life isn't perfect.
I am older as well, um, WAY older, haha.. 63 . , and I think you guys are attributing your own reasons why Sou-chan would act like that, ... but that's not what he said.. He gave the lousy excuse that he was afraid Haru would surpass him, get bored and leave him. He knew Haru loved him, he said so. So it was cowardice, no maturity, imo . :)
exactly "he was afraid Haru would surpass him get bored and leave him". That is exactly my point. You may see it as simple cowardice but I think that as they become older, people act more cowardly when it come to love. Personally, I think it's because they become more realistic and lose the fairy tale illusion. As I said in my original comment, if you asked me what I thought about this story 6 years ago I would've thought the seme has no reason to act the way he did and since they both love each other they should've gotten together and lived happily, end of story. But the older me who grew to realise how easily someone can fall out of love understand's the seme's mentality like you said "he was afraid Haru would surpass him get bored and leave him". I don't want to seem too serious commenting this on a manga discussion topic but love is whimsical and it can end as easy as it started so I don't think we should wrong people who fear attachement because they want to avoid the break up and the heartbreak
Hi akera, well, I am not judging people, just the story really... Sou-chan made those decisions to leave and etc, when he was young, while in high school.. so I don't think he had so much wisdom from age or experience. And again, when he was older, he actually was cruel and blamed Haru ... and while he is older, he decides someone else might get the toy he has always left dangling as an ego boost to himself and goes to get him. He's not a likable character.. And clearly , while being a manga,it's an art form, and it's compelling, that's why we are talking about it, haha
I absolutely agree that he was very cruel and the way he blamed Haru and felt threatened only because the other guy got interested in him is absolutely despicable. I just relate to him on the emotional insecure level but the way he acted is hateful. The uke didn't deserve such treatment from the guy he fell for
so before giving my opinion let me say this: the way you would evaluate this manga depends on your age/experiences... because honestly, if you asked me what I thought about it up to when I was 18 years old, I'd probably say that I hate the seme and he made the uke suffer for nothing and the uke is a wimp too for not moving on.
My current 23 nearly 24 year old self who's single (since birth lol) and very wary of love matters thinks otherwise. I can relate to both characters but the seme on a deeper level. I can relate to the uke's uncontrolled feelings because that is what love is but being a person who is so scared of rejection or causing disappointment I can understand the seme's point of view even more. Honestly, I can't imagine myself making the first move on someone that I love and I'd probably act the same way he did I wouldn't say I hate you to the other person but I would try to run away from them and remain as someone they "look up to" or "like" better than letting them down
