Exactly. But lets be honest. Will the author go that route? No. A bl author (at least this one) will never take that route to make an actual fulfilling character.
The obvious route would be doc dan falling for him first and seeking his approval in the rape sessions, or obsessing over him like any other rape bl.
So yes sadly doc dan is in fact falling inlove with the rapist and its not bcuz of the Stockholm syndrome but bcuz the author fucking sucks.
Tho if the author took that route of giving dan an abusive background and an arc where he realises he had been abused by this JJ guy, it would srsly make all the stereotypes i hold onto to bl comic disappear in a whim. But eh; i am not getting my hope up.
Tho fr i love this whole paragraph; maybe we should make our own fanfiction where doc dan finds another person and goes to therapy LOL
The short answer is no but i'll explain to you why. Dan is currently developing a trauma bond with Jaehyuk, intermittent good/bad behavior can create trauma bonds. The irregular intervals in which Jaehyuk is kind then violent with Dan has started to form an attachment/bond as a sort of coping mechanism. The trauma bond in question? Stockholm syndrome, a psychological condition that occurs when a victim of abuse identifies and attaches, or bonds, positively with their abuser. Stockholm syndrome is a form of trauma bond, where the victims “wait out” the bad behaviors for the “crumbs” of good behaviors bestowed on them. These kind actions (kissing him, taking care of his grandma etc) are like light peeking through a slight cracked-open door which makes Dan feel greatful and make him believe that Jaehyuk is 'actually a decent person'.
Stockholm syndrome includes any relationship where victims of abuse develop a strong, loyal attachment to the perpetrators of abuse (which for Dan is beginning to occur). Its easier to understand Stockholm syndrome as an actual survival strategy for victims. This is because it seems to increase victims' ,who are in danger, chances of survival and is believed to be a necessary tactic for defending psychologically and physically against experiencing an abusive, toxic, and controlling relationship. It is often found in toxic relationships where a power imbalance exists, such as between a parent and child or a boss and an employee. This kind of power imbalance is very evident with the relationship between Dan and Jaehyuk as he holds Dan's livelihood within his palm.
Dan is not falling in love with Jaehyuk, he is developing Stockholm syndrome as a way to cope with the constant rape and abuse he endures.
