My sister and I live together with my kids and her three kids her husband and my mom. Her step son is in college. Well was in college. But all the kids are girls, although my one neice went through I'm a lesbian stage with her best friend in pretty sure they're all straight and they are like siblings. My one neice and my daughter are only for months apart in age so have been mistaken as fraternal twins before. I had a male cousin one year my jr but I loathed him. I like him when we grew up till he became a tea party anti gay freak Show Trump supporter. I'm like what the fuck, you love my mom whose gay and yet your all stupid now. He's got his younger brother who was always my sweet adorable cousin all right wing now. The stupid it's strong in those two.

Yes :D Maybe that is why there are so many yaoi manga where cousins fall for each other.

Wooow well that change things. I guess it's also a cultural thing, I mean in my country we are very family oriented, you see your whole family every weekend or you live with them, and I've seen that japanese people often leave their families and never see them again. So maybe that's why this sounds so weird for me.

Actually cousin marriages are both legal and a social norm in many places and cultures in the world. It really wasn't that long ago since it was that way in the west. 50-60 years ago is about when things really changed, about the same time as the introduction of the TV.

I don't know about that. I do know that cousins getting married is not that uncommon. At first, it did strike me odd to hearing that its legal for cousins to get married, I couldn't believe it either. But oh well...every country is different :)

I'm ethnically Indian, my family are all british- yet I have a number of relatives who had arranged marriages with their cousins, some who fell in love, the ones who fell in love didn't really grow up with the cousin they ended up with so perhaps that's part of it. Strangely it was quite common with my parent's generation but not so much with my grandparents generation; which genetically speaking is a blessing. They say it's more repeated generations of cousin marriages where people need to worry about genetic diseases etc.
Btw this doesn't mean it's common in all Indians but it's not something we're surprised to hear about.

Never had a world history class? Some countries royalties married within their own families to make sure their bloodline stayed "pure".

Just an FYI, it's also legal to marry cousins in the U.S.

That was mainly to keep the crown within the family.

Not sure if marrying a cousin is illegal or not in Mexico, I was born there but left when I was ten and haven't gone back yet. However, I do know that it's mainly seen as taboo because of inbreeding and high birth-defects in many other cultures and countries. Not so much that it is illegal to do. I think it might not even be illegal to marry any blood-relative in many countries as long as they are not parent/child marriages.
