It's the difference between age of consent and age of majority. Age of majority was 20 but lowered to 18 a couple years ago (after this was published, so you're right in that aspect). But pretty sure the age of consent was raised/set to 16/18 (depends on the location).

I’m not gonna lie, all these age of consent and age of majority confused me sometimes. There’s a lot of new changes and things I have to get used to.

I honestly feel that age of consent is good being 16, better than 13 (before)!! However, it would be better to limit that within closer ages, if you know what I mean.

They confuse me too bc it's like, how is a 17 year old significantly different from an 18 year old? It feels arbitrary. In my opinion, someone way older shouldn't be dating a teenager even if they're 18. That just feels like... Like they're going "I'm not TECHNICALLY breaking any laws here." and it's kinda icky...
I agree, I think the relative age is what matters, like you said, if they're closer in age it's usually fine.
The older people get, the less age matters, but only once the younger of the two is fully grown and matured. So a 25 year old with a 45 year old might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they're both adults and able to make their own decisions. It doesn't feel predatory.
And I'm definitely glad that they increased the age of consent from 13. 16 is still very young, but at least that's not the middle of puberty (yikes).

I think generally the whole "your age divided by two plus seven" is a reasonable approach to age gaps and morality (to some degree. It's not infallible, but it's a good standard imo.)

Right on. If it’s someone who’s 25, and with someone in their 30s, that’s not an issue in my opinion. 25, you’re developed mentally (depends cause there are situations like clinical conditions etc), and probably experienced than a young 19 year old being touched by older men twice his age.

I’ve know people who are in mid 20s to late 20s, and are with 35+ (sometimes 40+) men, and it’s not an issue. Yes, exactly, it doesn’t feel predatory especially because predators usually aim for younger ages.

I think 13 is very young and can lead to unwanted pregnancies for girls who may not know any better because unfortunately, in a culture like Japan, sex ed is limited and is a ‘forbidden talk’. 16 is definitely better than 13. Glad we could agree.

Forgot to mention but, intentions are very important to realize. That’s what determines if someone is being predatory or not, and maybe some other factors.
