Ik what ur saying but is this sort of statement not just a way of contributing towards bi erasure? Like having a man who likes men end up with a woman is seen by yall as not ~staying in your lane~ and ~straight-ifying~ BL and actively ignores the idea that men who like men might not be gay but could also be bisexual ? U see this irl too — I rmb talking to a bi ytuber how she has been criticised in her circles for dating a member of the opposite sex. She’s either lesbian or straight to these ppl depending on who she’s dating and isn’t able to just BE bisexual. My family is the same— bi people are seen as just “in denial that they’re gay”. So many shades of bi erasure lmfao.
THAT BEING SAID, in this case I agree with what y’all r saying cuz I feel like this whole ~I’m in a BL novel but now it’s not BL anymore cuz the ML is into me!~ trope can just be fetishy and weird and the author probably had no intention of portraying the ML as bi but rather has this sort of weird storyline in mind: ~turning the gay man straight lol he’s into me now! And BTW he was never rlly into men he just had an obsession with that one dude!!!~~
Excited to read, but very, very tired of the trope of discrediting BL as just an 'obsession' that can be 'straight-erfied'. Just devalues BL (the sexuality) whether meaning to or not
And with so much anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and bias these days...this trope is so not needed.
