Her father married for love which is her and her brother’s mother. When their mom gave birth to Hilse, she passed away and her father pretty much passes the blame onto Hilse. He remarried to a woman who looks exactly like their biological mother and the woman’s daughter takes after her which is why she is favored. Ricardo has pure red hair as well which means he has more of the “legitimacy” I guess, so it was expected that he’d be the inheritor. Sorry if that didn’t help understand. ^
