I'll just rewrite it in my head where the emperor suffers from a painfuol and incurable disease that makes him miserable for the rest of his, preferably SHORT, life and the FL forgets all about him and marries a handsome, gentle genius doctor who cures her insanity makes her smile a lot and gives her babies.
And no one remembers the shitty ass emperor who dies unloved.
