Being married can be relevant too, it depends on how deep the relationship of the couples. Just like this too it started without a love but as it gets deeper they become more comfortable to each other and having more trust.
I agree in this special case but in general term, being married doesn't mean that doing sexual stuff when one is sleeping is okay. I think that everyone should talk about what they want or not in their sexual relationship AND that they have to know that consent can be remove at any moment so regular communication on this subject is important in a married couple just like any sex partner tbh
When it comes to consent, it's not. Being comfortable and happy does not mean you always want sex.
The idea that marriage does not equate to consent is super important because of the laws surrounding this e.g. there were/are laws saying that if you're married, you can't be raped.
When it comes to the stuff in the story, a talk before would have been great.
