I thought it was tastefully done and was well explained in the story. As someone who had worked with traumatized children, I've seen similar behavior where the child gets attached to someone or something as a coping mechanism and it was respectfully portrayed here.

I never know what to feel of mangas where one of the romantic interest are introduced as a child. Huge SIGH. I’m so conflicted
