The musk deer didn't die and they don't shift from animals to humans. The author only used human representations for the animals' actions. They still look like their animal form in people's eyes.

I have so many questions but like the main ones are:
1. Did the musk deer actually die? ( ch 80)
2. Can they actually shift from animal to humans or something?! ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
And I can't get over the fact that all of those were just stories
