Not all commoners in this era (I think it's the Renaissance) could afford to have soap but people who were well off, like Rose, did. I think the author was just too caught up in trying to make Rose have a naturally pleasant scent
If it’s the time period I’m thinking of soap wasn’t very popular people usually used oils/natural stuff or just water I’m sure she bathes
