Do they get punished?
They were detained and their punishment would be decided in the next territory they're moving to since the case doesn't have a precedence so they don't know how to decide the punishment. Severe punishment might be avoided but the compensation they have to pay would be enormous. That's as far as the manga raws I read, not sure about the novel.
Woahhh thank you! At least it's something, I hate that they did that and can avoid severe punishment but maybe the big fine hurts those greedy merchants more than jail does.
The traders/merchants took their pregnant female wolves. After the wolves got them back, they left.
