I think he vaguely remember because he dream of fire in the palace before destroying 15 palace. Plus, after MC kill himself to save the emperor, the emperor went rampage. Because the goddess was watching the palace getting burned so I assumed that the emperor went rampage. Also the goddess also said that he trying to get in her way. Just my theory
